ASTATIC
EchoMax 2000 Desk Mic
P/N: AS-EM2000
Description:
The ASTATIC EchoMax 2000 is a communications desk
microphone with digital echo effects and ETS (End of Transmission Signal). The use of
modern digital microprocessor technology means that the echo effects have superior
fidelity, clarity, and do not degrade with different settings of delay time. The EchoMax
2000 features two different digital echo effects and two unique digitally generated ETS
tones. It has a headphone output for easy setting of effects, and an analog VU meter for
setting mic gain.
The microphone element has been optimized for the highest quality audio with the frequency
response modeled after our famous D104 microphone. The EchoMax 2000 features heavy duty
steel construction and has a one year limited warranty.
ASTATIC
Quality All EchoMax 2000 microphones
are audio tested and inspected prior to shipment. Our absolute commitment to quality
insures that ASTATIC microphones remain the Best Value in today's competitive industry.
Features Include:
Echo
This is an effect that is familiar to most
people. A word spoken into the microphone will repeat and decrease in volume until it
fades away. The delay time between each echo repeat is set with the Digital Delay control
and is adjustable from a few milliseconds to nearly a second long. Short delay time
settings give a reverberation effect such as being in a small room with hard walls. Longer
delay settings sound as if you are in a large canyon.
Slapback
Echo Slapback is a type of echo that is similar to normal
echo except that there is only one echo repeat. This is a popular effect used on many
recordings. The delay time for the slapback echo is set with the Digital Delay control. A
short delay setting adds fullness to your voice, almost as if there were two people
speaking at the same time. A slightly longer delay setting gives the effect that is used
on many recordings. The delay time is adjustable from a few milliseconds to nearly a
second long.
ETS
ETS stands for End of Transmission Signal,
sometimes referred to as Roger Beep. It is a tone that is sent over the air
after you release the push-to-talk button. ETS is especially useful when channel
conditions are poor and helps the person listening determine easily when you have finished
speaking. The EchoMax 2000 has two different tones, a single and a multi-tone ETS. Both
tones are generated digitally so that they have a distinctive sound, yet are not annoying
to listen to when channel conditions improve. A relay is normally used to hold the radio
in transmit while the ETS tone is being sent. The EchoMax 2000 uses two relays, one for
the receive circuit and one for the transmit circuit. This helps eliminate receiver pop
that can occur when some radios are used with mics that have ETS. ETS can also be turned
off if it is not desired.
Headphone
output jack The EchoMax 2000 has a headphone jack located on
the rear panel of the microphone base. The headphones used should be stereo with a
miniature 1/8 phone plug. The type normally used with portable tape and CD players
work well. Located next to the headphone jack is a control marked EAR, that can be used to
adjust the volume level of the headphones. Using headphones will allow you to accurately
adjust the echo delay and gain for the best sound. Note that the audio in the headphones
is from the microphone only. You will not be able to listen to audio from the radio
receiver in the headphones. If desired, powered speakers such as the type often used with
computers and CD players can also be used. You will need to keep the volume to the
speakers set low enough to avoid audio feedback.
Power /
Battery indicator The power / battery indicator lights
whenever the push-to-talk or lock buttons are depressed. When the battery starts to become
depleted, the light will become dim or go out completely. This indicates that the battery
needs to be replaced as soon as possible.
VU
Meter The VU meter on the front panel is provided to allow
proper setting of the Mic Gain control.
Push-to-Talk
and Lock buttons The larger button on the front of the mic is used for normal
push-to-talk operation. The Lock button locks the mic into transmit. Push the button once
to lock and push it again to unlock. For reliability, the push-to-talk and lock buttons
have a separate internal switch and operate independently.
